  • Western Development Commission - Cheif Executive

    2001 - 2011 Responsibilities:
    • To develop overall strategy for this Irish Government State Agency with the Members of the Commission appointed by Government reporting to the designated Cabinet Government Minister.
    • To oversee implementation of strategy, set and ensure delivery of performance targets.
    • To oversee implementation of the Code of Practice for the Governance of State Agencies.
    • To ensure the effective communications of the organisation.
    • To manage a programme of policy analysis for government on infrastructure development affecting the region in; access – air, road, and rail; energy – electricity and gas for rural regions; telecommunications – the provision of broadband in rural regions.
    • To manage a €34 million venture capital fund (portfolio of approximately 50 investments) ring fenced for a rural region.
    • To manage rural development programmes namely; in local investment in renewable energy – biomass and wind farm development, creative industries, tourism development and organic argi-food production.
    • To manage and develop the promotional campaign for the Western Region, including the online guide to living and working the West and the use of social media to develop this project. www.lookwest.ie .
    • To manage the WDC annual budget ranges per annum between €7 million and €3 million

    •Appointed as a Company Director to the Board of Ireland West Airport Knock -December 2007 – July 2009

    •Selected to represent the Irish Government at the EU Salzburg Declaration on Rural Development in 2004
